16 Dec What to Wear to an Engagement Shoot
Photographed by Joey Thomas
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about engagement shoot outfits recently. There are some people who are just always perfectly put together (like Piper, the gorgeous wedding planner who shares our office.) I’m just not one of those people, and I know I’d be super stressed about picking an outfit for a photoshoot. If you’re like me, I’ve got your back! I’ve gone through our best dressed couples and come up with a few pointers.
Comfy: A lot of our favorite shots are action shots. You want to wear something that allows movement and versatility in your poses. In photos, it’s obvious when you’re comfortable. You look more natural and relaxed.
Cute: Matching is generally a bad idea. At the least, shoot for a slight variation in color, like the couple in white and beige below. You want to compliment one another and show off your personality. Contrast works so much better! If he dresses in more muted colors, a bold color choice or pattern for you may accentuate both of your outfits.
Personality: You’re welcome to dress to the nines if you want to go all out. You should, however, have one outfit that expresses yourself. Is your style sporty, romantic, or modern? Think of the outfit that is just completely “you” and go with that.
Details: Think of what you want in focus. A big statement necklace? Your gorgeous ring? Remember to have your nails done, and opt for jewelry that picks up the colors in your man’s outfit. Accessories can make all the difference. If you’re wearing a simple dress or jeans and a plain T-shirt, some bright heels can really pop!
Props: Having something to play around with can put you at ease a little bit. Think of some things the two of you love. Does he like to take you out on his motorcycle? Is your dog your baby? We love fresh ideas and we’re pretty open to working with you on them, so feel free to ask and bounce your ideas off us!
Confidence: Whatever you wear, make sure it’s that outfit that makes you think “I look amazing” from every angle in the mirror. That strapless top is great, but if it makes you uncomfortable, skip it!
